May Inspires Me
May Inspires Me
It’s already well into May. The blossoms are out and some are even fading already as the bulbs make their way to the surface to see the light of Spring. As I go for my morning runs now, the air is still cool but the sun is often trying to warm the earth and soothes me as I run. The air has a sweet smell that is just delicious and the birds are singing more as they also delight in the changes in the neighbourhood.
I love the change of the seasons. Spring brings the newness of life and fills my mind with ideas of hiking and beach walks after dinner, BBQs and picnics. It’s interesting how with the change of season our whole mindset can change. I’m culling my winter recipes and starting to think ahead to lighter salads and patio fare. My wardrobe is slipping from the black staples of winter to lighter palettes and textures and I’ve pretty much put my boots away for the season.
It doesn’t seem to be a conscious transition. All these are just little things I notice. They seem to just become part of life. I am not consciously choosing lighter recipes or clothing, it just kind of …happens. The grind of winter seems to lift as the sun gets up earlier and takes longer to set in the evening. The feelings of wanting to hibernate and nest fade and I want to get out in the world and enjoy nature more. I’m even looking forward to doing the Grind!!
This morning I opened my deck hatch roof and huddled beside my patio fireplace with my coffee. I know I am rushing the season but it felt so good to be outside with my morning coffee and listen to the gulls. I even heard a woodpecker-pretty cool in the middle of the city!
With the emergence of Spring I am reveling in the lightness I feel and see around. There is spring cleaning to do and yard and deck work to do but I’m not feeling the pressure to do it. I feel more like I have a kick in my step and a warmth in my bones that makes me WANT to get out and do the outdoor chores.
